Treat them right, and a single bralette will outlast every fast-fashion item you ever own.
We get asked this all the time: how do I keep my bamboo pieces looking new? Here is the short version, everything we tell friends in the studio when they pick up their first order.
1. Wash cold. Always.
Cold water (max 30°C) is non-negotiable. Hot water might shrink bamboo and breaks down the elastane in our active sets. We use a gentle delicates cycle. If your washing machine has a “hand wash” or “silk” setting, that is the one.
2. Skip the fabric softener
Fabric softener feels luxurious but it slowly coats the fibres with a waxy residue that destroys bamboo’s wicking and breathability. The whole reason you bought the piece. Instead, add a half cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle once a month, it lifts mineral build-up and keeps colours sharp.
3. Hang it. Never the dryer.
Tumble dryers are where good activewear goes to die. The heat melts elastic, the tumbling pills the surface. We line-dry every set in the shaded courtyard at the atelier. At home, hang on a wooden rack out of direct sun, bamboo dries in about half the time of cotton.
4. Wash inside out
Friction is the enemy of seamless pieces. Turning your bralette and shorts inside out before washing protects the outer surface from rubbing against zippers, buttons, and the drum. A small habit that adds years.
5. Store folded, not hanging
Stretch sets sag if you hang them. Fold them loosely in a drawer, the way you would fold cashmere. Same rule for our spa robes, on a wooden shelf, not a wire hanger.
That is the whole secret. Cold water, no softener, line dry, inside out, fold. Five rules. A bralette you care for like this will outlive most clothing in your wardrobe.
If you ever do see a piece pill, fade, or feel like its first wash, send us a note!
We’ll make it right. That is what slow luxury actually means.
Move like the ocean. Feel like in heaven.
